![]() REACHING OUR YOUTH! "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." Mark 16: 15 - 16 There are some very important statistics that we need to be mindful of when we think about our church and outreach programs. If we were to take 1000 Christians, divide them into five classes according the ages at which they became Christians, this would be the estimated results:of this thousand, there would probably be 548 converted under 20 years of age, 337 between 20 and 30 years of age, 96 between 30 and 40 years of age, 15 between 40 and 50 years of age, 3 between 50 and 60 years of age and 1 between 60 and 70 years of age. These statistics are very alarming. If we surveyed most churches, we would find out that attendance during the Sunday School hour has decreased in the last 20 years. Many people do not feel that it applies to them. Many parents no longer feel that it is necessary to insist that their children join a particular class. The results are less new converts to the church. We need to pray about the problem that the church is facing today. How can we change the statistics? If more people are reachable before the age of 20, we must focus on inviting more children and youth to our services. We must be friendly and kind to the youth and children that do attend our services. It must constantly be in our prayers that the young folk in our services are ‘the church of tomorrow.’ We must encourage them to participate and make them feel important. Yes, their appearance may sometimes be different, their taste in music is somewhat different, but we serve the same God and He is interested in the condition of men’s hearts and He desires worship regardless of the form and fashion. Reach out to a young person this week. Tell them that they are important to us and to God. They do have value to us and to our Church. Let’s pray for them everyday. |
